Happy Friday and Happy Newsletter Day!
This week we are talking about consistency, long term health, and some of the conversations happening both inside the clinic and in the health world right now.
As always, we’ve got a new podcast episode, a practical exercise, a simple health tip, and a quick look at what we are seeing with our clients and athletes this week.
Weekly perspective
Remember the Basics
People are searching for the perfect tool.
Cold plunges. Wearables. Recovery gadgets. Zone 2 cardio. Hormone optimization. Functional training. Every week there seems to be another trend promising better health, better recovery, or better performance.
And to be fair, some of these things absolutely can help.
But one of the biggest mistakes people make is believing the tool is the solution.
Most of the time, the basics still matter more.
Strength training consistently.
Sleeping enough.
Managing stress.
Moving your body often.
Eating in a way that supports your goals.
Recovering well enough to repeat the process again tomorrow.
The interesting thing is that none of those are particularly flashy. They do not sell well on social media because they are repetitive and simple. But they work.
What we talked about this week was the difference between adding tools versus replacing fundamentals.
A cold plunge might help recovery. A wearable might increase awareness. Hormone therapy may absolutely improve quality of life for the right person. Functional training can make people more resilient and capable.
But none of those things can outwork poor habits.
The people who tend to succeed long term are usually the ones who stop chasing shortcuts and start building consistency. They use tools when appropriate, but they never confuse optimization with foundation.
That is especially important right now because the health world can make people feel like they are constantly missing something.
Most people do not need another gadget.
They need a repeatable routine.
And honestly, the best program is usually the one you can keep doing when life gets busy.
That is the part that actually changes people.
Exercise of the week
Glute Bridge
Who it is for:
People dealing with low back tightness, weak glutes, or anyone looking to improve hip strength and stability.
Why it matters:
Strong glutes help support the hips, pelvis, and lower back. This exercise is a simple way to improve lower body strength and movement quality without placing a lot of stress on the joints.
Coaching cues:
Drive through your heels and squeeze your glutes at the top.
Keep your ribs down and avoid arching your lower back as you lift.
Common mistake:
Pushing through the toes and letting the hamstrings do all the work instead of fully engaging the glutes.
Healthy tip of the week
Tip: Get Outside
Get outside within the first hour of your day.
Morning sunlight helps regulate your internal clock, improve sleep quality later at night, and increase overall energy during the day.
It does not need to be complicated. A short walk, sitting outside with coffee, or even a few minutes in natural light can make a difference.
Small routines that help your body recognize when it is time to wake up and when it is time to wind down tend to have a much bigger impact than people realize.
This week in the clinic
No ACL? NO Problem.
One conversation we have been having a lot lately is how quickly people assume ACL surgery is the only path forward after a tear.
For many people, the automatic question becomes, “When are you getting surgery?” instead of “What are your goals and what options do you have?”
This week we were talking about Savannah, who recently completed a half marathon (with her husky, Ghost), and Arielle, who signed up for a women’s soccer league, both after ACL tears and both without surgery. More importantly, both are fully functional and confidently doing the things they love again.
Every situation is different, but we continue to see that with the right strength training, rehab, guidance, and long term consistency, people are often far more capable than they initially believe after an injury.
