Vestibular therapy in Shirley, MA
Physical therapy for vertigo, dizziness, balance problems and concussion.
Whole Health Solutions offers vestibular therapy at our clinic at 2 Shaker Road in Shirley, MA, for people from Shirley, Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Lunenburg and nearby towns.
Your balance system is your inner ear, your eyes, and your brain working together. When one part is off, the world can spin, sway or feel foggy. Vestibular therapy is hands-on physical therapy that finds which part is off and retrains it, so you can move without fear again.
Sound familiar?
You feel like the floor is moving, and nobody can tell you why.
Dizziness is easy to brush off, and hard to live with.
- The room spins when you roll over in bed or look up.
- You hold the counter or the wall when you stand up.
- Grocery stores, screens and busy places make you feel off.
- You have been told to wait it out, and you are still waiting.
- Weeks after a concussion, you still do not feel like yourself.
Most of the time there is a real, treatable reason. Your physical therapist tests your inner ear, eyes, neck, and balance to find it, then gives you a clear plan.
Dizziness is common. Living with it is not your only option.

Concussion care
Still not right after a concussion? We can help.
Most people feel better within a few weeks of a concussion. When symptoms hang on, a guided plan helps you get back to school, work and sport.
After a concussion, dizziness, headaches, blurry or jumpy vision, fogginess, and trouble in busy places can linger. Your physical therapist checks your balance system, eyes and neck, then builds a step-by-step plan that brings activity back safely.
- Dizziness and balanceVestibular exercises that retrain the balance system so screens, busy places and quick turns stop setting you off.
- Eye and head movementExercises that help your eyes and head work together again, for reading, driving and sport.
- Neck careHands on care and exercise for the neck strain that often comes with the hit and can add to headaches and dizziness.
- Return to activityA gradual, symptom guided return to exercise, school, work and sport, working with your doctor and athletic trainer.

Questions
Vestibular therapy questions, answered.
What people ask before they start.
What is vestibular therapy?
Vestibular therapy is a type of physical therapy for dizziness, vertigo and balance problems. It finds which part of your balance system is off, then uses specific exercises and head position moves to retrain it.
Can physical therapy help vertigo?
Yes. Many types of vertigo respond well to physical therapy. BPPV, the most common cause, is often treated with simple head position moves, and many people feel better within a few visits.
Can physical therapy help after a concussion?
Yes. When dizziness, headaches, vision problems or fogginess linger after a concussion, vestibular therapy, eye exercises, neck care and a gradual return to activity can help.
Who provides vestibular therapy at WHS?
Julia Hill, DPT, CSCS, a physical therapist with advanced training in vestibular rehab.
When should I go to the emergency room instead?
Call 911 or go to the emergency room right away if dizziness comes on suddenly with a severe headache, trouble speaking, face drooping, weakness or numbness on one side, double vision, fainting, or chest pain. After a head injury, go right away for repeated vomiting, a worsening headache, confusion or unusual sleepiness.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with us. If your symptoms need a doctor first, we will tell you.
Can I use my insurance?
Most of our clients do use their insurance for reimbursement of our physical therapy services. We go over everything in the discovery meeting.
