Athletic performance training in Shirley, MA

Training, injury prevention and return to sport, all in one system.

Most athletes train in one place, get hurt, rehab somewhere else and then try to piece it back together. Here your athlete has performance coaches and physical therapists on the same team, sharing one plan. Injury prevention, movement problems, rehab to performance and strength, speed and power all happen in the same system.

Whole Health Solutions is an athletic performance and physical therapy clinic at 2 Shaker Road in Shirley, MA. We train youth, middle school, high school, college and adult athletes from Shirley, Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Lunenburg, Westford and nearby towns.

Performance education

Training is only part of performance. We teach athletes how nutrition, sleep, recovery, stress and daily habits decide how they train, recover and play, including nutrition for athletes: what to eat around practices and games and how to gain healthy weight and muscle.

What's included

  • Nutrition for athletes, before, during and after games
  • Healthy weight gain and muscle building
  • Sleep, hydration and recovery habits
  • Handling stress, school and a busy schedule

Return to sport

Cleared is not the same as ready. We close the gap between rehab and full speed so you go back confident and strong.

What's included

  • A direct handoff from your physical therapist
  • Step by step return to sport testing
  • Rebuilding speed, cutting and power
  • A plan to keep the injury from coming back

Sound familiar?

Talent gets you on the roster. Training keeps you on the field.

Most athletes never get a plan built for their body and their sport.

  • Random team lifts that do not fit your position.
  • The same nagging injury every season.
  • Coming back from injury without ever getting fully strong again.
  • Getting pushed around by bigger, faster athletes.
  • Off seasons that come and go without real progress.

We test how you move, build a program for your sport and season, and track progress so you can see it. When something hurts, our physical therapists are part of the same team, so care never stops.

Stronger athletes get hurt less and play more.

How it works

Game ready this season. Stronger every season after.

The same path whether you are 12 or 32.

01

Relieve

Clear up the aches and movement problems that slow you down or set you up for injury.

02

Rebuild

Build strength, speed and power with a program made for your sport and position.

03

Perform

Take it to the field, the court or the ice, and keep building all season long.

04

Thrive

Season after season we keep testing, adjusting and building, and our physical therapists are right there if something comes up.

Thrive is not a finish line. When you are ready for your next goal, the same team that got you here is ready too.

Dan, "What's training with Jake like?" With Jake, he would say that he's very supportive. Like, he's always like, "You got this. You got this." He's always pushing me to do my best. He's like, if I'm like, "Oh, this weight was a little hard," he's like, "Well, I just saw you do 10 of it. I know you can do it." And which is true, honestly. He's always reaching out to me as well, letting me know what's, going on, which is really helpful for, like, if I need to reschedule something or if he needs to reschedule. He's, has great communication. And he's also like a friend, honestly. He's great at communicating. he's very funny.

As a college soccer athlete, returning to playing was my biggest priority. Julia created a personalized rehabilitation and strength program that focused on knee stability, mobility, strength, and injury prevention.

As an athlete, I have worked with many coaches and trainers and I can confidently say that none of them have compared to the team at Whole Health Solutions.

They have given my son the confidence he needed to progress and return to the sports he loves. Not only have they helped him recover, but they've also strengthened his muscles and set him up with lifelong strength and conditioning so future injuries are less likely to happen.

Want to take a minute to thank Gary D. and the staff at WHS. My son and I were referred to Gary through a mutual friend for arm pain related to pitching / baseball. Our experience thus far has been great. A plan was developed and put in place for injury prevention and arm strengthening.

Questions

Athletic performance questions, answered.

What athletes and parents ask us most.

What ages do you train?

We train youth, middle school, high school and college athletes, plus adults who still compete. Programs are matched to age, experience and sport.

Do you help athletes with nutrition?

Yes. We help a lot of athletes with their nutrition, from general fueling for performance to gaining healthy weight and muscle, to what to eat around practices, games and tournaments. We work with boys and girls, men and women.

Is strength training safe for young athletes?

Yes, when it is coached well. We teach movement and technique first and progress slowly, which helps young athletes stay healthy.

Do you train athletes in season?

Yes. In season programs keep athletes strong and fresh without wearing them down before games.

Do you work with pitchers and throwers?

Yes. We offer arm care and throwing focused training for baseball and softball players, with physical therapists who specialize in throwing athletes.

My athlete is hurt. Should we start with physical therapy?

If something hurts, start with physical therapy so we can find and fix the cause. When they are ready, our performance coaches take over and rebuild them for their sport.

Can we use insurance, HSA or FSA for performance training?

Performance training is not billed through insurance and is not usually covered by HSA or FSA. Physical therapy for a sports injury is different, and most of our clients do use their insurance for reimbursement of our physical therapy services. We go over everything in the discovery meeting.

Do you offer team or small group training?

Talk with us at your free consult about your team or group. We will tell you what makes sense for your athletes.

What should my athlete bring?

Athletic clothes, sneakers and a water bottle. We will take care of the rest.

What towns do your athletes come from?

Our clinic is at 2 Shaker Road, Suite C200, Shirley, MA 01464. Clients come from Shirley, Ayer, Devens, Harvard, Lunenburg, Lancaster, Groton, Leominster, Bolton, Boxborough, Littleton, Townsend, Fitchburg, Pepperell, Clinton, Sterling, Stow, Westford, Berlin, Acton, Dunstable and Hudson, and plenty of clients drive in from farther away.
