Pelvic floor physical therapy in Shirley, MA
The Pelvic Health Center at Whole Health Solutions.
The Pelvic Health Center is our pelvic health and therapy program at 2 Shaker Road in Shirley, MA. Women from Shirley, Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Lunenburg and nearby towns come to us for leaking, pelvic pain, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, prolapse and more.
Care is led by Dr. Courtney Teehan, DPT, with Dr. Alicia Cecchini, DPT, and Dr. Caitlin McCutcheon, DPT. Every visit is one on one in a private room, and your plan connects your pelvic floor to the breathing, core and whole body strength that keep you feeling strong.
Sound familiar?
Common does not mean normal.
So many women are told to just live with it. You do not have to.
- You leak when you sneeze, laugh, jump or run.
- You plan every outing around where the bathroom is.
- You had your baby months or years ago and your body still does not feel like yours.
- Sex, tampons or exams hurt, and nobody has given you a real answer.
- You feel pressure or heaviness, or your core just feels like nothing is there.
Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles. Like any muscle, it can be too weak, too tight or out of sync with the rest of your body. A pelvic floor physical therapist finds out which, explains it in plain language and gives you a plan to fix it.
You deserve real answers and a real plan, not "that is just part of being a woman."

What to expect
A private room. A clear plan. You stay in control.
Your first visit starts with a conversation, not a table. You sit down with your pelvic floor physical therapist in our private Pelvic Health Center room, talk through what is going on and what you want to get back to.
Nothing happens without your okay. Your therapist explains every step before it happens, and an internal exam only happens if you want one and consent to it. Many women are surprised by how comfortable the whole visit feels.
How we help
Pelvic health and therapy for every stage of life.
Whatever brought you here, it starts the same way: one pelvic floor physical therapist, a thorough evaluation and a plan built around your body and your goals.

Pregnancy and postpartum
Feel strong and prepared through pregnancy, then recover well after birth, whether your baby is six weeks or six years old. We help with the leaking, the aches and the core that does not feel like yours anymore.
What's included
- Prenatal care and preparing for birth
- Postpartum recovery after a vaginal birth or C section
- Diastasis recti (ab separation)
- A safe return to exercise, running, and holding and carrying your kids

Bladder, bowel and pelvic pain
Leaking, urgency, constipation and pelvic pain are common, and they are very treatable. We find what is driving your symptoms and calm them down, so your day stops revolving around them.
What's included
- Leaking with coughs, sneezes, laughs or exercise
- Urgency, frequency and getting up at night
- Constipation and trouble emptying
- Pelvic pain, pain with intimacy and interstitial cystitis

Core, hip and whole body strength
Your pelvic floor works as a team with your breathing, core, hips and back. Once symptoms settle, we build the strength that keeps them from coming back and gets you back to what you love.
What's included
- Breathing and core coordination
- Hip and low back pain linked to the pelvic floor
- Prolapse symptoms and pelvic pressure
- A home program with video links for every exercise

Recovering from pregnancy and a c-section is tough, I was barely able to move around without pain and struggled carrying my baby even for short periods. Alicia listened to my concerns and made a comprehensive plan to target all of them.

Questions
Pelvic health questions, answered.
What women ask us most before their first visit.
Is pelvic floor therapy painful or uncomfortable?
Not for most women. Treatment is gentle and goes at your pace. Your therapist explains every step before anything happens, you can pause or stop at any time, and every visit is in a private room.
Do I have to have an internal exam?
No. An internal exam only happens if you want one and consent to it. Many women start without one, and your therapist will explain your options so you can decide what feels right.
Do I need a doctor's referral for pelvic floor therapy?
No. In Massachusetts you can see a physical therapist directly. If you need a doctor's input along the way, we will help you get it.
Can I use my insurance for pelvic floor therapy?
Most of our clients do use their insurance for reimbursement of our physical therapy services. Pelvic floor physical therapy is also an eligible expense for HSA and FSA accounts. We go over everything in the discovery meeting.
What happens at my first pelvic floor therapy visit?
You start with a conversation in our private room about what is going on and what you want to get back to. Your therapist looks at your breathing, core, hips and posture, explains what they find in plain language and starts treatment. You leave with a plan.
I had my baby years ago. Is it too late for pelvic floor therapy?
No. Women come to us six weeks, six years and twenty years after giving birth. Your pelvic floor can get stronger and work better at any age.
Can I come in while I am pregnant?
Yes. Pelvic floor therapy during pregnancy can ease back, hip and pelvic pain, help you prepare for birth and set you up for an easier recovery afterward.
Do I need a diagnosis to start?
No. If something does not feel right, or you simply want to feel stronger and more in control of your body, that is reason enough to book a free call.
Who will I see at the Pelvic Health Center?
One of our three female pelvic floor physical therapists: Dr. Courtney Teehan, DPT, Director of the Pelvic Health Center, Dr. Alicia Cecchini, DPT, or Dr. Caitlin McCutcheon, DPT. You see the same therapist every visit.
What towns do your pelvic health clients come from?
